Was going through old photos while searching for photos to do scrapbooking and found some really priceless ones. This was taken 18 years ago, when I was in Primary 3!

The amazing Facebook has done it again! After I uploaded the pictures and tagged those who are already on my list, they went round and started tagging those who are not my list. With these tagging here and there, many of us found even more old classmates. Awesome isn’t it!

Such joy to find old friends. :)

A snap shop of the structure

On our last trip to Europe, we were pretty much museum-ed out. Frankly, for me, I have visited a fair number of museums, chapels, cathedrals and monuments since young as my Dad who is a strong believer of 'educating via travelling' ensured that we visited museums on all our trips. So we decided to just visit 2 museums and not overdo it on this trip.

There are several Guggenheim museums worldwide and there was one Guggenheim museum in New York which is one of the better know Guggenheim museums. The unique structure of the museum is one of the reasons why it is so popular. I have never seen a museum structured this way. It is a gradual spiral from the ground level to the top which is about 5 storeys high and paintings are displayed along the spiral walls. Natural light enters from the ceiling center which boosts a spectacular design. When it first opened, I believed there were some controversies to the design but gradually, it has gained acceptance and popularity. Featured in the Guggenheim this time around, is a collection of Kandinsky's artworks.

I found myself comparing the Guggenheim to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam several times. I think it was the way the paintings and sketches were chronologically organized. It told a story, which I liked. You could see and appreciate the progress of each style of the paintings/sketches over time. Each of us had a different favorite and dislike. For me, I didn't quite gravitate to the geometrical shapes but rather the random abstract artwork.

It was a good visit. Not my favorite honestly, but it was good. I was mostly intrigued by the building architecture. I took many photos using my G10 but unfortunately those were in the damaged SD card so these shown here were taken using my iPhone.

Great chocolate and yoghurt house brand pretzels

When I visit the States, I love checking out the supermarkets because there is so much to browse through, and buy :P

In NYC is a pharmacy that is seen at almost every corner all over the city. It is called Duane Reader. I found most stuff that I wanted but had to remind myself that I still have a stash of it at home from my previous trips! I did find some house brand pretzels that were oh so good. The yoghurt covered pretzels were a nice balance of salty and sweet and I wished I had purchased more.

Homemade chocolate truffles, pralines, bon bon from the 5th Ave Chocolatier

I have a long list of my New York trip experiences that I would like to share here. Trust me. It is long! But the first thing (other than my marathon), that came into my mind was the luxury chocolate tour that we had signed up for. Well simply because I am a chocoholic!

I chanced upon the site whilst researching on things to do in NYC. Although B.T had lived in NYC previously and was able to be my tour guide, I did want to figure out for myself what I really wanted to do. So I was totally excited when I chanced upon this tour.

It costs USD$72 per person and the tour was for 2 hours (on foot). We would be taken to 5 different shops where we could sample and take home with us some free premium chocolates. All shops were luxury chocolates and I thought it was a great opportunity to sample chocolates that I would normally not bear to spend a lot of money on.

We were lucky. The weather was perfect. Not rainy but cold enough so that we could carry around our chocolate stash with us. We were the only tourist in the group of 10 with the rest being from New York itself. The guide Bert, was excellent. The way he described chocolate was like OMG. I was listening to him intently, hanging onto every word, salivating as he described each taste and texture of each praline, truffle and bon bon. I have never met anyone that is so passionate about chocolates and he had a deep understanding and knowledge about it as well.

Some interesting tidbits. Chocolate is a fruit. Yes! It takes about 500-600 pods to make 1 pound of chocolate. Dark chocolate should never taste bitter! That is a misconception! The bitterness should come from coffee flavoring for example. Real dark chocolate doesn't taste bitter. White chocolate is just made from cocoa butter, milke and sugar and has no real chocolate in it. A bonbon is a sweet and any confection with a cream filled center (fruit or nuts) and is covered in fondant or chocolate. Bonbon also means good good. A truffle is traditionally made with a chocolate ganache centre coated in chocolate or cocoa powder. It has to be coated in the powder to be termed a truffle. I forgot the actual meaning of a Praline. It was such an educational tour that we both enjoyed the bits of information.

In each shop, we were allowed to choose any two chocolates to sample. In some shops, we were offered extras and had samples of hot chocolate as well. The quality of the chocolates were top notch and we really only needed to have a piece to be satisfied. In fact, we carried around our stash for awhile because it was too much chocolate to stomach! But no complains because we enjoyed every single bite.

I sampled chocolates that I would have not tried traditionally for example kirsh since I am not a fan of alcohol in chocolate. However, I realized that if you purchase a premium chocolate, it does make a difference. We tasted strawberry champagne truffle to lemon sorbet to the original truffle to violet chocolate. It was so amazing that we were both on a chocolate high.

I could go on writing about this for ages but I think I will just stop for now. If anyone is a chocoholic like I am and visits NYC, do consider this. Meanwhile, enjoy the pictures!

More chocolate pictures here! )

Instead of going for yoga (since I am still recovering from a minor flu), we played Agricola with 3 other friends. It is a board game which B.T bought from a random set up store in Bryant Park. It is a very interesting game. For those that like Farmville in Facebook, this is somewhat similar. You farm and try to score the highest points. I don't know how to describe it. It is rather complicated but heaps of fun! For those that love board games, this is something to consider. It might not be available in Singapore but you should be able to get it online.

Half stretch

Just lounging

Pimp was in Bangkok recently, with me. And it seems that every housekeeper loves to mess around with him. The last time in Portland, he was found like this and now, heh, two new poses. I love my monkey :) My mom says she's surprised he has not been stolen yet -_-

It says I ran NYC 2009

I was planning to buy a NYC marathon tee as a momento and to commemorate my first marathon finish. However, I forgot about the post-race expo at Central Park and missed it. So I decided to swing by Niketown since I figured that there will be some available.

This was the only design that had an XS left - poor B.T couldn't find a single one in his size. Well there was one but it wasn't his design type. I do love this tee because I was thinking of buying one of those cheesy but must-have I heart NYC tees but decided that actually, this fits perfectly! It has NYC, the Big Apple on it and well, the NYC run :)

Perfecto.

Sorry there has been a huge delay with the posting of my NYC trip as I have been busy with work and travels. Also, trying to fully recover because I keep falling sick. One more trip to complete and I will start running and doing yoga - I can't wait!

Made a date with Mumsy to have facial this evening. Not to make Pops feel left out, we asked him to join us later for dinner after the facial.

After the facial was done, we had dinner at TCC and had a cool time chatting and sharing. Of course I didn't forget to capture photos of our foodies:

Mum's Tangy Tamarind Chicken

Pop's and mine: Down-to-earth beef steak

Drinks to share: Nutello espresso. This was pure heaven, and a must-try for all coffee lovers. I had 2 cups on my own!

On the way home, I just had to capture the beautiful Christmas lights along Orchard:

Chit chat continued later when we reached home. Since Hubba hadn't returned home, I spent time at my parents' instead. It was just as well as Kenshin was to follow me home for the night. Here is the patient fellow lying and waiting for me to make good of my promise with his favourite bear:

So now after 2 cups of espresso and a few hours of chit chat, I'm having problems finding dreamland. Argh!

Vanessa came to me for bridesmaids dresses to be made. Her wedding was to be in Bali, and 3 out of 5 bridesmaids did not live in Singapore. So we worked on a design that she liked, and once we confirmed that, I had the bridesmaids from overseas pass me their measurements.

Very fortunately, the dresses fit all of them on first try and none had to get any alterations done in their respective hometowns! Some photos of her wedding which looks really lovely. I mean, who doesn't love a Balinese/Beachfront wedding?!

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

Joyce was introduced to me by a work partner turned friend - Yilin of Choo Yilin Jewelery. She was looking for bridesmaid dresses as well as an after-party dress for her to dance the night away in.

I had a good time on the job with her and her bunch of bridesmaids, probably because I know Yilin and hanging out with the girls while they tried on their dresses was casual and filled with laughs and chatter.

Here are some pictures, courtesy of Gabriel Mendes Photography

From Bagholicboy’s facebook:

This is the one!! I was going to get this if I could not find the Chanel in London. The leather is incredibly soft and smells damn good! I like how sloppily-shaped it is. Fell in love with it the moment I carried it in Harrods.

“A pity” I found the Chanel on the next level and that depleted my shopping funds greatly. Hence, I could only return to carry it one last time before I left the store.

Now…I wonder if Taiwan has this cheaper.. ;)

Kids these days are really smart. I swear my nephew has different personalities for different times of the day.

He’s an angel in the day when he comes over to my room and plays with me. We watch CBeebies or HK TVB dramas, play Facebook Countrystory and learn sounds some animals make, learn colors and new words, roll about in bed, playing with camera and the Berry, etc.

Because I always use the Berry to take photos of us, he has picked that up. He would go, “姑妈, pleee (please)” to borrow my Berry and try taking photos of himself. When he gets a lil’ pesky and doesn’t want to return my Berry, I give him an angry expression and he’d go, “姑妈, soweee (sorry)”. TOO CUTE.

He transforms into the spoilt brat at night when my parents are back home. I’m positive he knows that he can get away with it because they are around and behaves like that. He wails when he doesn’t get his way and switches off our TV every now and then on purpose while we watch. He will wait for your response and run around the living room while we try to catch him.

Corrine was one of my very first few clients under my Love, Yu bridal and bespoke label. She was looking for an evening gown for her wedding dinner, something understated yet glamorous, her style was definitely classic (she was not a bling bling sequin girl!!).

The grecian toga gown was made in a deep plum silk georgette. Here are some photos
